Unsigned Information about BSL Enabling
I hold NVQ Level 3 in British Sign Language along with NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care. My skills enable me to empower a Deaf person in their preferred language, to achieve goals they never thought possible so that they can reach their full potential.
I have 9 years enabling experience working with people with a range of disabilities including Sensory Impairment, Learning Disability and Autism. I have completed numerous training courses, enhancing my knowledge in BSL and Health and Social Care.
In April 2015 I received a Devon County Council Star award for Enabling a Deaf person who was at a low point in their life.
As a friendly, approachable person with a positive attitude. I have the ability to communicate and empathize with all age ranges to build effective lasting relationships.
Part of my Enabling work is to support and teach all aspects of Independent Living, look at Community Confidence and Effective Communication, Travel Training, Liaising with Multi Agency Services to facilitate mutual understanding between themselves and the supported person. Each person is an individual and I will adapt and work to their needs. I offer Face Time and Skype as alternative communication methods.
How my enabling fits into a supported person’s life:
My name is Sharon Brown. I work as a British Sign Language Enabler. There are Support Workers and then there are Enablers. Support Workers give help and continuous support. Enabling includes help, support, confidence building, encouragement and teaching new skills. All this makes you more independant.
